What is Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is a revolutionary advanced exfoliation treatment that polishes the skin helping to rejuvenate, smooth and improve imperfections. It has been proven safe and effective for the treatment of minimizing fine lines and wrinkles, sun damaged skin, acne scarring and any superficial age spots. This treatment is available for the face, neck and other areas upon request.
Microdermabrasion combines skin resurfacing, photo biostimulation and micro currents in one treatment for a complete facial rejuvenation package.
How does the treatment work?
The epidermis is the outer most layer of the skin acting as the body’s protective armor. The epidermis itself is comprised of three principal layers with the outermost layer being entirely represented by dead cells known as the Stratum Corneum.
At the base of the epidermis, is a basal layer of living cells that divide and migrate towards the Stratum Corneum. As they migrate they change their characteristics and become more elongated and dry.
Microdermabrasion uses the principle of kinetic disruption of the Stratum Corneum to stimulate the production of new, living cells at the basal level. Stimulation of the basal layer causes cellular turnover which also stimulates a reaction at the level of the dermis in the form of vasodilation which in turn improves skin elasticity and texture.
Microdermabrasion delivers minute crystals of a substance called Aluminum Oxide to the skin surface in a vacuum stream. These crystals are abrasive, and as they hit the skin surface, remove a small amount of dead tissue. The vacuum action of the instrument is also very important since it stimulates blood flow and it is thought to assist in the production of new collagen which helps skin elasticity.
The microdermabrasion treatment is performed with no discomfort. Some patients with very sensitive skin might experience a sensation similar to mild sunburn.
How will I feel during the treatment?
How quickly should I expect to see results?
Your skin will feel vibrant and healthy and you will notice an immediate difference in the way your skin feels because it will be softer and smoother. The Microdermabrasion treatment has the effect of blending or removing fine lines and pigmentation caused by overexposure to the sun.
